About Us
Born out of the sadly missed White Cow Folk Club, we are an established and friendly club always keen to see new faces and encourage new performers.
We have performances or open mic nights rather than the popular sing around style found at many clubs, giving everyone the opportunity to do something, be it folk singing, contemporary music or something else. Although we call ourselves a folk club we enjoy many styles of music: a typical night might include traditional & modern folk music, blues, country music, poetry, in fact just about anything and everything. We believe that folk music is more about folk making music than the subject matter or style.
We have our own room for club nights with comfortable seating, a well stocked bar and toilet facilities. It is on the first floor with access via a flight of wide, easy to negotiate stairs, if you have difficulty with stairs please contact us and we will provide as much help as we possibly can. We provide a simple set up of a six channel P.A. with three mics, but our room is equally good for singing and playing plugged in or unplugged so it is a matter of personal choice. We do ask performers to prepare before going to the mic, this means setting up before the proceedings. If you want to use your own amp etc, please keep your set up time to an absolute minimum, as it is more entertaining listening to you play than watching you tuning up. We appreciate performers of all standards and abilities, no one will ever say you are not good enough or too good to perform, and if you don't want to perform just come and listen, but be warned many a non performer has been bitten by the folkie bug and ended up singing along or even learning to play. |
