Ilkeston Folk and Blues Club

Committee meeting

Wednesday 20th Aug

Present: Keith (Acting Chair), Tom, Sue W, Sian, Dave B, Dave M, Greg, Derek, Roy, Jamie

Matters arising

Food

A complaint about the standard of food at the club has been made, after debate the committee thought the food was adequate for the money we pay, No-one thought that it was worth paying more for a better fare so for the time being the food will remain as is.

Christmas Party

Suze thought we could make this year a little different and wanted us to consider suggestions for the Christmas party, there being no immediate suggestions committee members are asked to think about it for the next scheduled meeting

Feature Nights

Keith wanted to know how to proceed for next year, Tom noted that despite some ground rules being decided on for this year we didn’t comply with them fully.  It was decided to wait until the AGM for a ruling how to proceed.

Bar

An email has been received see below

Dear Committee

Most folk clubs close the bar in the room they use.   This applies to almost every folk club I know - Spondon, Carrington, 2nd time around, Traditions at the Tiger.   They all have a bar in the room but realise how disruptive it is to have it open.   In our case, people would simply go downstairs for drinks, as they do at three of the other clubs listed..

At the Stute the open bar generates quite a lot of noise, and  it encourages the chat that goes on constantly, a sign of disrespect for the artist.  .

So I propose that the upstairs bar be closed forthwith.   After all, there is little demand from customers downstairs, far less than the other clubs referred to.

In addition a drive should be made to persuade the audience to listen.   A minority seem merely to come for a chat, they could do this downstairs.   My enjoyment has been spoiled lately, and I`m sure I`m not alone.

The committee discussed this at length and decided unanimously that the bar should remain open

Equipment

Further to the recent discussions about new sound equipment for the club, Tom reported that a new system was on the market and whilst expensive should solve many of the problems we currently have.  Tom was asked to prepare a couple of proposals by the next meeting for the committee to consider.  If new equipment is purchased the question of whether to loan it to club members and the fate of the old equipment will be considered.

Wirksworth

The Art’s Festival on the 6th Sept is going ahead Keith to organise

AOB

Jamie felt he was not sufficiently informed about the committee decision regarding standards of conduct within the club, it was suggested that further discussion should take place with Jamie at the next meeting.

AGM

The date for this year’s AGM is Wednesday 3rd Dec
